Serve To Learn

As an avid volunteer and lover of all things service, Geneva has created this page as a resource list and a locale for generating updates of her activity in the following areas.

Aspirations While Maine’s high school graduation rate is among the highest in the nation, the percentage of students who pursue post secondary education is significantly lower.  The Aspirations in Maine program works to combat the growing gap between Maine high school students' college intentions and their actual enrollment.  Geneva volunteered with Aspirations during the scholastic year 2008-2009 as a liaison for Brunswick High School and for BHS's students who visited the Bowdoin College Campus every Friday.

Aspirations, and programs similar, are vitally important to increasing awareness about post-secondary options and decisions.  The goal is not to force kids to attend college, but rather to highlight its accessibility.  Aspirations is based on the University of Virginia College Guides Program, which is essentially a well-crafted support system for the high school guidance counselor.

Youth Action Net is an excellent resource and networking site for young entrepreneurs and social activists.

The Omprakash Foundation.  This is a non-profit dedicated to linking volunteers with grassroots needs all across the world, at no cost to the volunteer.  Omprakash is also a grant foundation with financial gifts for qualified individuals and projects.
