Three Months In Tibet

I'm in Tibet!

Volunteering as an English teacher for three months at the Golok Sengcham Drukmo Home for Girls in Darlag, Qinghai Province, Tibet Autonomous Region, PR China.

I found out about this project through The Omprakash Foundation, a non-profit, US organization dedicated to linking volunteers to grassroots organizations in need all across the world.  They also provide grants to qualified individuals, and operate large, global projects in support of education.

I've been in China since March 10, and will return to the states on June 8. For all the details about my project, stories about the girls, cultural details you won't want to miss, and pictures, read the blog.

You can also join the facebook group to receive updates and important information.  If you are interested in making a contribution to the home, there are a couple different needs and avenues.

-Money: you can donate via The Omprakash Foundation, a registered non-profit organization, meaning your donation is tax-deductible and secure. In order to earmark your donation for SGH you need to send me an email with the specifics.

-Books: we have the beginnings of a wonderful library here, but will always need more children's books, picture books and early readers. If you are able to donate, organize a book drive, or have a helpful contact, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

-Academic materials: this is an ever-present need. Send me an email for more info.

-Shop at I Count for myEARTH, a green products blog, enter the code GENEVA at check out, and 10% of profits will go to the home in Tibet.

This project is wide-reaching and is aided by many different individuals and classrooms. All details are on my blog and well worth the time it takes to read through it.

Be well,

Geneva
